Care Guide: The Denim Trucker Jacket
Among denim’s most beloved qualities is its rugged durability. Here are some steps you can take to make sure your trucker jacket goes the distance.
How to wash it:
- Wear it as long as possible before cleaning.
- Empty the pockets. Remove all items to avoid damage to the fabric or washer.
- Turn it inside out. This protects the outer surface from friction and helps preserve the color.
- Fasten closures. Button or zip up the jacket to reduce wear and tear on seams and hardware.
- Wash in cold water to prevent shrinkage and minimize fading.
- Choose the delicate or gentle cycle to reduce agitation and prevent excessive stress on the denim.
- Opt for a detergent designed for dark fabrics. Or find a gentle formula to help retain the jacket's color.
- Avoid bleach or harsh detergents. They can weaken fibers and fade colors.
- Skip the fabric softener. It can leave residue on denim and affect its texture.
- Air-dry. Lay the jacket flat or hang it on a sturdy hanger. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can fade the fabric.
- Avoid the dryer. High heat from the dryer can shrink and stiffen denim. If you must use a dryer, choose the lowest heat setting.
- Denim does not need frequent washing. Spot clean small stains or use a fabric refresher spray to keep it fresh between wears.
